Was there yesterday evening… Amazing selection – enjoyed first taste of Conquerer… I agree Stuart – I sampled a friend’s ‘Anastasia’ (8%) and my tastebuds still haven’t quite recovered. Richard was a great host!

Egham United Services Beer Festival
Just a quick and lazy reminder that this event is on again this week – definitely recommend a visit. In particular I will be seeking out the very last drop of the London Brewers Allaince Collaboration Porter which has hopefully developed nicely over the last month or so.
Just a reminder that our next Egham Beer Festival will be open all day Thursday 4th thru Sunday 7th November (opens at 11am daily).

As before approx 50 beers with the emphasis on new breweries and new beers. Since the number of handpumps on the club bar were increased from 5 to 8 we’ll now be able to offer 36 beers at any one time!!!

There’ll also be some festival specials such as Ascot Chambord Imperial Stout and a special version of Havant Unwrapped plus 2 new beers from our local hobby brewer Blackaddler.

Some of the new brewers will be on hand for informal ‘meet the brewer’ sessions.

Prices will be keen as always.

For those who like some music with their beer we’ve booked Papa George for Friday evening.

Egham United Services Club
Back up to date now but before resuming my walk around Hammersmith, I want to share a couple of other visits recently.

The Egham United Services Club, yes in Egham, Surrey, has been on the real ale scene for a few years now and they recently held their sixth beer festival.

It is too late for you to hear me say now how good this event was. It had so many rare and wonderful beers that people travelled across the country to be there. All beers were £2.60 a pint which was extraordinary value given that some were over 8% in strength.

A great evening, in good company with some fine beers at a festival organised by some special and dedicated people.

This is the first pub on my journey where I have had such a good time that I failed to take a photos to illustrate this blog. I will need to return.

Fine beers are available at all times but if you want to meet me at the next beer festival there it is going to be held from 4th to 7th November. Unmissable !

Not to repeat all the comments previously but this was an excellent festival, I could only make one day, Thursday and I stayed far longer than I intended to. A sign of a great Club Festival me thinks!! Very well done to all those involved.
Cheers

As usual absolutely outstanding. Best festival in the London area – and for that matter most other places! The pilgrimmages of Brian Moore from Sheffield speak volumes for it! Mind you, it’s a heavy day and is perhaps isn’t surprising I have ‘nodded off’ in the past. The 19 halves I had were very generous and some of them strong (although after sipping Ewan from Folkestone’s Pitstop Hop it was too much for even me – even though the cloudiness seemed to have little effect on the taste).
Look forward to next one in November and good luck in COTY voting!
Pete

STEVE ROBINSON (CAMRA NATIONAL WINTER ALES ORGANISING COMMITTEE)

Thanks for the wonderful beer festival last weekend. It’s the first time my partner and I have been to Egham. It was well worth the journey from Stockport. Well done.

Travelled down from the frozen norf (well Manchester) as I had heard so much about this fest (from Bob whilst at Reading and others) and it was well worth the effort. Was there Thursday afternoon / evening, made my 3 new breweries and sampled an excellent selection of beers in good condition.

It was also a very friendly festival. Met a few interesting characters too which makes it all the more fun.

So well done to all at Egham USC; Dates for the next ones already pencilled in the diary!

Cheers

Bob – I was there last night and totally echo Simon’s comments re beer selection and quality, information, friendly welcome, etc. etc. Only my second visit and I was welcomed as an old friend!

Big thank-you to you and everyone involved.

Simon, many thanks for your positive comments they are very much appreciated by myself and the club’s committee (particularly my partner in crime Richard Griffin).

It’s nice to know our efforts to source new and unusual beers aren’t in vain.

I also need to thank all of the visitors who literally travel, in many cases, hundreds of miles to attend our ‘little’ beer festival – if you didn’t make the effort it would never be the success it’s rapidly become. It’s been great to meet some mighty names in the beer drinking world such as Brian Moore and Rick Pickup amongst many, many more.

Thanks again and see you all in November!!
Bob

Absolutely I will second that .
Surely this great club must be a major contender for CAMRA Club Of The Year.

Thanks to Bob for the very useful daily updates and Richard and all concerned for their hard work- yesterday they seemed to be permanently changing casks!

I must admit I did chicken out of the worlds most bitter beer which was interesting to say the least.
Next festival 4th to 7 th November.

Its been CAMRA Nation Club runner up for the last 2 years. Third time lucky?

I am not surprised that it has been extremely busy with such an excellent selection on offer. I went on Thursday and found all the beers i sampled to be in excellent condition. Yet again the EUSC has surpassed itself . I have been to 5 of the 6 festivals held there and always find the members and staff so friendly and helpful and the imaginative selection of some of the smaller and rarely seen micro-breweries is very much appreciated by all those who attend . Cant wait for the next fest !!

By far the best beerfest this year for me – 5 new breweries (missed one which had sold out). Keep up the good work!
